one year anniversary
last year this time i was laying in a hospital bed after getting broadsided by a car. glad this mornings ride went smoother. gotta admit though, there was a bit of paranoia this a.m. with hightened senses watching for the brand of asshole who disregards cyclists as pests. fuck you, i'm heading to work too. it's certainly not all roses riding everyday, but i'm not ready to give it up yet.

kill the headlights and put it in neutral
sometimes all you want to do is work on your bike
sometimes you just want it to go smoothly
sometimes you don't want to curse and throw your tools
sometimes you don't want to strip a bolt with a worn hex wrench
sometimes you don't want to bash your knuckles when said wrench slips
sometimes you don't want to fight and pray to get the stripped bolt loose
but then there's nights like tonight
at least the drop bars are off the crosscheck
replaced by flat bars to give the hands a reprieve
and the lone front v-brake will function properly
after swapping out a damaged bolt
.

some random notes:
thursday was 60+ miles
friday was 100+ miles
saturday was 80+ miles
started ctc and peeled off after 60 miles
google maps works for touring but detailed cue sheets are critical
make sure your cyclo is calibrated correctly too
traveling light and fast is quite enjoyable
we lucked out with the wind being at our backs most of the time
fenders with tight clearance are annoying when riding gravel
zero mechanicals or flats
having beer with lunch sets a good mood for the day

including some local breweries
scenic back roads
and hopefully extended sections of dirt
all while staying closer to home

hearty downpours this morning left not a dry spot on me anywhere. dripping wet and pleasantly warm with a heavy earthen smell hanging in the humid air. glad i get to spend this time outdoors as being couped up at work all day tends to drive me crazy.
