cool shot i say

it is a very cool shot indeed, i like it a lot for a couple of reasons.

its not really camera trickery at all, but a near textbook depiction of a real life example of circular motion- an excellent representation of just one of the relationships between angular and linear velocity.

the hub and section of spokes closest to the hub is motionless, it was going slow enough for the shutterspeed of the camera to freeze the motion. meanwhile the section of spoke closest to the rim are a complete blur, moving much too fast for the shutterspeed.

the same effect can be seen between the foreground and back ground of the picture. the ground closest to the camera is moving by at close to whatever speed chris was riding at, but the speed of the background is nearly motionless relative to the cameras eye.

i also like how some parts of the frame are in focus, while other sections of the frame are out of focus... a nice example to the cameras depth of field and f stop settings.

after all that we dont even need to address how cool the spinning drivetrain looks frozen in time.

there is a lot going on in this picture.

see physics can be fun right?
