Here's an option to clutter your thought processes: Gear-up the Cross Check (like with shifty-bits) and run fatty tyres across the Commonwealth. Doesn't it have fender braze-ons?
that ideas passed thru my head already but i'd be left with a gutted pacer sitting at home collecting dust. plus the effort of running a rear brake and tuning the derailleurs is more than i'm liking at the moment.
