I'm trying something new this winter. I'm cleaning my bike daily. In past years, mine has looked exactly like yours. I always thought, "Why clean it, it's just going to get dirty again tomorrow?' I would clean it maybe twice all winter. But cleaning it everyday has been such a revelation. Everything is working perfectly everyday. I start out with a clean bike. The chain has not seen one little spot of rust all winter. The downside is 30 minutes of wiping down every evening after it thaws out on the repair stand. However, when it gets cleaned daily, the cleaning goes much quicker. The upside, it's been a joy to ride in the slop, grit, and salt day after day.
my garage is unheated so there's been mornings where i start off with the previous nights snow and ice still intact. i don't think i have the patience to clean daily, though i can see the appeal of a fresh bike. the fixed drivetrain is the only reason i can get away with suck neglect too.
